(in the July 2007 Equine Journal)

It was a very busy spring and I’d like to take a minute to thank everyone who contributed their time, money and energy to the club so far this year. We have lots of new members and there’s a renewed spirit in the club. We welcome anyone interested in promoting the beautiful Arabian breed to join our club and make new friends and contacts.

Many thanks to Sue Levesque who opened up her barn, Abaris Arabians, in Concord to host the “Soup to Nuts Clinic” in April. I think we all picked up some helpful tips and reminders. Crystal Webster brought her beautiful horses to the clinic and did a demonstration on horseback of how to stretch and warm up those muscles before riding. (See the Clinic Photos)

Crystal has been very helpful to the club this year and I want to personally thank her. She created many of the promotional materials you’ll be seeing throughout the year including our 2007 Horse Show Prize List.

As you can see from the photos, the beach ride was a huge success. Thanks go out to Cheryl Crawford, our Membership Chairperson for organizing this annual event. We had more Arabians than ever this year. The weather was grey and cool but that kept the 2 legged population to a minimum and left the beach wide open for us to gallop away! I personally enjoyed talking with members that came to ride or just to visit and have a hamburger. For more fantastic photos from the beach ride, please visit Bill Fish’s website. www.billfishphoto.photoreflect.com Bill was kind enough to donate his time to both the clinic and the beach ride. Thanks Bill!!

Next on the calendar, 7/8/2007, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., is our Dressage Clinic. This event is open to horses and riders of any level and any breed. It is being conducted by Janet Briggs in Concord at Abaris Arabians. Janet is an “r” rated dressage judge and she formerly ran the equine program at UNH. She now teaches and judges at shows and clinics around the nation. If you’ve ever wondered about dressage, or if you’re an accomplished rider, this clinic is a wonderful opportunity to come and expand your knowledge. It’s a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and we hope you’ll sign up. Even if you don’t want to ride, come to watch, ask questions and learn from others.

Rates for the clinic are:

Private Lesson: $90 for Members, $95 for non-members

Semi-Private Lesson (up to 3 riders): $60 for Members, $65 for non-members

Auditors welcome : $20 for Members, $25 for non-members

Lunch is included

To join us please sign up on our website at www.nharab.org or contact any of the board members.

We hope to see you at our Annual Horse Show in August. We’ve switched things up a bit and are having a Hawaiian Luau Theme this year complete with a pig roast and belly dancers! This will be instead of the traditional Lobster Dinner that was becoming cost prohibitive. As always, even if you don’t show, please come by for a visit. This is a very friendly atmosphere and we welcome everyone to come and watch these beautiful horses.

If you’d like to volunteer at any of our events, have questions about our club, or the events we have planned, please contact me or any of the board members listed below. Thanks and have a great summer!!
